The South Indian city of Chennai (capital of Tamil Nadu) has been severely hit by heavy rains over the last seven days.
More than 450 people have lost their lives and several hundred thousand people forced out of their homes due to rising water levels.
With flight, train and road services affected, the city has been cut off from other parts of the country.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the city Thursday, December 3, 2015 to supervise flood relief operations.
Modi, who landed at a defense base 40 KM from Chennai, met the state Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha and announced a Rs 1,000 crore grant to Tamil Nadu to support relief operations.
The water logged Chennai Airport has been closed since December 1, 2015.
The airport is scheduled to reopen Sunday, December 6.
