Swedesboro, New Jersey Indian Amish Jayant Patel (47) was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison June 22, 2020 for traveling to Rhode Island to allegedly engage in sexual activity with a person he believed to be a 9th grade girl.
The 46-months prison term of Amish Jayant Patel is to be followed by a five years of supervised release.
Besides the prison term and 5 years of supervised release, Amish Jayant Patel’s sentencing includes a payment of $5000.
According to court documents:
when Patel arrived at T.F. Green Airport on Sunday he was followed by undercover law enforcement officers and agents as he deplaned, he traveled to a local liquor store where he purchased alcohol, and then to a pre-determined location where he was expecting to meet with the 14-year-old girl. He was arrested without incident.
New Jersey Indian Amish Jayant Patel was arrested on January 5, 2020 and he subsequently pleaded guilty on March 12, 2020 to charges of traveling interstate to engage in illicit sexual activity.
The 14-year-old 9th grade girl with whom Amish Jayant Patel was actually communicating was a Rhode Island State Police Detective assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
