Windsor, NJ resident Ganesh Parkar (40) is in big trouble over criminal charges filed against him for sexually assaulting a sleeping woman passenger on an Air India Flight from Mumbai to Newark, NJ.
According to the complaint:
While on a Dec. 21, 2016, Air India flight from Mumbai to Newark, Parkar moved from his ticketed seat in the business class section of the plane to the economy class section and sat next to a female passenger seated in a center row. When the woman fell asleep, Parkar placed his hand on her breast without her consent.
….After defendant Parkar returned to his assigned seat, defendant Parker made repeated requests to the Flight crew to be permitted to speak with the Victim, which requests were refused. Additionally, during the remainder of the Flight, defendant Parkar wrote two short notes to the Victim in which he, in sum and substance, apologized for a “moment’s stupidity” and stated, “I acknowledged I was stupid.”
Ganesh Parkar was charged with one count of abusive sexual contact on an airplane.
A citizen of India, Parkar appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Falk in Newark federal court on December 22, 2016.
He was released on $50,000 unsecured bond, home detention with electronic monitoring and surrender of his passport and all travel documents.
If convicted on abusive sexual contact charge, Ganesh Parkar may face up to two years of prison time and a $250,000 fine.
Ganesh Parkar must be presumed innocent until and unless he’s convicted in a court of law.
